UOB targets more presence in East Malaysia
The lender aims to expand operations in the region by reaching out to clients through its sales force as it is constrained to set up branches.
The United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd (UOB Malaysia) is planning to expand its presence in Sabah and Sarawak through its local sales force.
UOB organised an ‘Extraordinary Sales Leadership (ESL) Workshop and Townhall Meeting’ for about 80 staffs from Sabah, Sarawak, and Kuala Lumpur at the Imperial Palace Hotel here from March 4 to 5.
“We are aiming to expand our business in East Malaysia, and the best way is by training our local sales force to reach out to our clients,” said UOB Malaysia’s senior vice president and head of personal financial services Kevin Lam recently.
With employees from Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Sibu, and Sandakan joining their Miri counterparts , they were trained by both in-house and invited speakers in the ESL Workshop.
The guest invited speakers included certified financial planner, Adrian Ho and AmInvestment Bank Group’s director of retail funds, Ng Chze How.
“We cannot be compared with domestic banks with many branches in the country, because we are constrained by regulations (in setting up branches),” said Lam, himself a Singaporean transferred to UOB Malaysia’s head office in Kuala Lumpur five years ago.
