Japan’s Mizuho Financial Group is experiencing disruption in its corporate online banking services, a spokesperson said on 11 January, reports Reuters.

This comes almost a year after Mizuho suffered several system failures in 2021 that caused thousands of its ATMs to stop working in days between February and March, according to local reports. Last year’s incident also led to a delay in the bank’s leadership changes.

Mizuho has faced a number of wide-scale technical difficulties in the past two decades.

In April 2002, Mizuho experienced system trouble that led to delays in processing 2.5 million automatic debit transactions when three former banks—The Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank, The Fuji Bank and The Industrial Bank of Japan—were consolidated.

Its next system trouble in March 2011 was due to the huge volume of money transfers of donations for Japan's 2011 earthquake and tsunami relief.
